Facial Thread Veins
Thread veins or telangiectasia are small, dilated blood vessels that become visible on the skin's surface, commonly occurring on the nose, cheeks, and chest. Thread veins can be hereditary or caused by sun exposure, general ageing, steroid use, and pregnancy. Facial thread veins respond well to IPL; we may use the Nd:Yag Laser. We can treat individual thread veins, small areas to large areas such as the chest, where sun damage can cause thread veins to cover the skin.
You may require 3-6 treatments depending on the area being treated and if the veins are mild or severe.
Before Treatment
- Avoid steam room and sauna on the day of treatment
- Avoid exfoliating or products containing glycolic or retinol for seven days
- Avoid sunbeds/prolonged exposure to sunlight for four weeks
- Avoid fake tan for one week
- Avoid exercising immediately before treatment
During Treatment
A layer of cool gel is applied to your skin, and the IPL/Laser is pulsed over the thread veins to create a heat reaction, this thermo-coagulate the thread veins and the body re-absorbs the vessels, over multiple treatments. This reduces, fades, or removes the thread veins from the surface of the skin.
After Treatment
Redness, irritation, mild itching, or warm sensation (like sunburn) may occur immediately or within 48 hours.
Larger thread veins can appear darker or grey in colour immediately after the treatment. This is temporary as the skin is healing.
Make-up can be applied several hours after treatment if the skin does not feel sensitive, sore, or irritated and the skin is not broken. Remove make-up carefully with cleanser and pat dry, do not rub your skin as this will irritate it.
Avoid strenuous exercise, steam room, sauna, and hot baths for at least 4-5 days.
Wash and Bath as normal in a lukewarm shower, pat dry skin and apply the recommended home care products.
