Acne & Surgical Scars
Acne and surgical scars can be treated with the SkinPen microneedling device, which mechanically breaks down and remodels the scar tissue. Reduces red, purple, and brown post-hyper-inflammatory pigmentation, typically associated with scarring, to significantly improve and reduce the appearance of scarring.
We can treat:
Ice Pick Scars- Deep pits extending into the skin, giving the appearance of having been punctured by an ice pick.
Boxcar Scars – Angular scars with sharp vertical edges, maybe shallow or deep. Mostly found on the cheeks and temples.
Rolling Scars – Gives a wave like appearance to the skin. They tend to be wide and shallow, usually caused by damage to the surface of the skin.
Surgical Scarring - Treatment can begin 6-8 weeks after surgery.
- WE DO NOT TREAT KELOID SCARS
A course of 3-6 treatments is recommended every four to six weeks.
Before Treatment
Avoid alcohol the day before microneedling treatments.
Do not use creams containing retinol for 72 hours.
During Treatment
A topical anaesthetic will be applied and left on your skin for 20-30 minutes to make the treatment pain-free. The SkinPen will be moved over the treatment area to create micro punctures in the skin. This removes the old, damaged collagen and stimulates the fibroblast cells to produce new collagen and elastin fibres. This will smooth and reduce the appearance of acne and surgical scarring and helps reduce redness and excess pigmentation.
After Treatment
The skin will be red with mild swelling.
Do not touch the skin immediately after the treatment.
A tight, tender feeling and the skin may become dry and flake in the first few days. Do not pick the dry skin. Allow this to flake off naturally.
Pat dry skin after shower or bath.
Do not use perfumed, AHA or Alcohol containing products for 48 hours.
Do not go swimming or use steam rooms and saunas for 4-5 days.
